Mathematical software

The Physics department has Mathematica and Matlab available, and we can make use of these programs for the occasional user. More information about the mathematica software licenses.

Note: the campus license for Maple was terminated a couple of years ago.

Most of our Linux desktops have the following software installed:

• Maxima (and the wxMaxima graphical interface) for symbolic computation
• Octave - numerical computations, mostly matlab compatible in syntax
• R - Statistics
• Python routines like scipy, numpy, matplotlib, ScientificPython (and more).
• Sage (Math; Installable on request, due to the size of the package)
• Cantor
• Kalgebra (graph calculator)
• Kmplot (mathematical function plotter)

• IDL - commercial data visualization tool / programming language
• Mathematica
